Asian & GCC governments commit to fair & transparent recruitment

In January 2017, officials from Member States of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue met in Colombo to discuss various topical issues, including models of labour recruitment involving Asian and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Recent research by the International Organization for Migration on labour recruitment from India and Nepal to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) presented at the meeting highlighted the high incidence of worker-paid recruitment fees, importance of sub-agents and insufficient employer oversight of partner recruitment agencies. The Member States committed to cooperatively promote fair and transparent labour recruitment practices, including improving oversight over recruitment agencies.
